NER BAGCATs 2008

The City of Sheffield Swim Squad gained two North East Regional Age Group Champions this week after two weekends of tough competition at Ponds Forge International Sports Centre. The two swimmers, who swim with the Sheffield City Council Swim Training Scheme at Ponds Forge ISC, also picked up five silvers between them.

Twelve year old Tegan Turner-Clarke won gold in the 200m freestyle in 2.17.13 together with three silvers; 100m freestyle in 1.02.69, 200m butterfly in 2.28.02 and 100m butterfly in 1.08.62. Annie Wood, ten years old and competing in her first North East Regional Championships, won gold in the 100 breaststroke in 1.32.55 together with two silvers, the 200m individual medley in 2.54.67 and the 200m breaststroke in 3.11.97.

A silver medal was won by Antonia Heseltine, also aged ten, in the 200m butterfly. Bronze medals were won by Dominic Baugh, eleven years old, in the 100m backstroke, Freya Mitchell, eleven years old, in the 400m freestyle and Adam Peel, twelve years old, in the 800m freestyle.

Other finalists included Joseph Faulkner, thirteen years, Tom Walker, fourteen years, Ellie Pollard, eleven years, James Dethick, twelve years and Haydon Thorp, thirteen years. As a result of some fantastic swims Tegan Turner-Clarke, Freya Mitchell and Joseph Faulkner have now qualified for the British Age Group Championships which take place at Ponds Forge 24th – 27th July.
