Weston Super Mare Report

Over the Easter weekend Lead Coach Alex Gray, helped by Assistant Coach Chris (Chief) Walker and Team Mangers Debbie Mallaband and Jane Thompson took 22 members of the Junior Olympic 1 Squad to the Weston Super Mare Easter Meet. The squad stopped at Bath University for a training session on the way and had time to do some land work on the beach before the competition started.

The meet itself was 6 sessions over three days with a busy program of events for all the swimmers. Over the weekend there were 138 individual swims from which the squad had 37 finalists out of a possible 69 meaning that the squad was represented in 19 out of a possible 27 finals. From these finals the squad returned home with 12 gold, 7 silver and 5 bronze medals. A further 13 medals were won in other events of which there were 4 gold, 4 silver and 5 bronze medals. This translated to a total medal haul of 36 medals over the weekend.

Of the 22 members of the squad there were 13 different medal winners. These were; Joe Faulkner, Alex Watson, Alex Reid, James Dethick, Callum Tate, George Rix, Sophie Taylor, Daniel Walker, Jason Mazzei, Tegan Turner Clark, Elliot Grady, Naomi Walsh, Amy Webster and Aryan Abadian. This was a fantastic achievement by the squad with all the swimmers making countless personal best times, topped off by Joe Faulkner winning the Top Senior Boy Award and Alex Reid winning the Top Senior Girl Award. As the squad left Weston Super Mare with the meet organizers commenting on the excellent conduct and politeness of the swimmers and staff over the weekend they could all reflect on an enjoyable and successful weekend.
