Matthew had a superb meet, winning 4 Golds and 1 Bronze (400Fc, 200Fc, 200IM, 400IM, 4x200 relay). This superb tally made him the most succesful athlete at the competition and were all personal best swims.
"Matthew was the absolute professional at the competition, it's hard to believe that he is only 16yrs old. The conditions were very hard being so hot, with a noisy athlete village and poor food, but he coped very well and swam fantastically. I am very proud of him and it's great to see somebody that works so hard and is so committed get the reward he deserves…well done Matthew!"
Team GB came 2nd in the medal table behind Russia, winning 9 Golds, 2 Silver and 4 Bronzes. Matthew now moves onto Peru, where he competes at the World Youth Championships…GOOD LUCK MATT!!!!
