Day 1

A brilliant first day of the Championships for the City of Sheffield swimmers, with 8 swimmers qualifying for semi- finals and finals. First to race was Lucy Spencer (18) in the 16/18 yrs 200m IM who swam into the semi-finals in 2.15.92 and then later qualified for the final in 2nd place in 2.15.37. Joe Faulkner (16) made it through to the finals in the 16/16 yrs 400m yrs Free finishing 9th in a fantastic time of 4.06.38. In the 14/15 yrs 200m Fly Tegan Turner-Clarke (15) has a place in the final after qualifying in 7th place in the semi-final in 59.83. Dave Gregory (18) is through to the 17/18 yrs 100m Back final, he swam 57.45 in the semi-final to qualify in 4th position. In the Girls 100m Free Tegan Turner-Clarke (15), Lucy Spencer (18) and Ellie Faulkner (18) all qualified for the semi-finals, with Ellie going on to qualifying in 4th and Lucy going on to qualify in 10th for the 16/18 yrs final. Nick Grainger (16), swimming in the Nationals for City of Sheffield for the first time, competed in the 200m Breast qualifying for the 15/16 yrs semi-final in 2.28.70 and just missing out on the final by finishing 11th.   Also racing today in the 400m Free were Alex Watson (16) and Nick Grainger (16).

 

Day 2

Another great day for City of Sheffield swimmers with plenty of action in the finals and semi-finals with medals won and awesome PBs.   Joe Faulkner (16) won our first medal in the 15/16 yrs 1500m Freestyle in 16.06.44, a brilliant PB. Well done Joe!

 

The morning session saw Alex Watson (16) swim in the 200m Fly. Rachel Grainger (15), Gabi Hignett (16) and Ellie Faulkner (18) swam the 400m Free, with Ellie qualifying for the final in 1st place in 4.15.36. In the 200m IM Dave Gregory (18) and Joe Faulkner (16) are through to the semi-finals. The first of our teams was in action, the girls 4x100m Free (Lucy Spencer, Ellie Faulkner, Rachel Grainger & Tegan Turner-Clarke) and are through to the final. Nick Grainger (16) raced in the 15/16 yrs 1500m Free in 16.13.97, a great PB, to finish in 5th place.

 

Into the evening session and Ellie Faulkner (18) and Lucy Spencer (18) were the first to swim in the 16/18 yrs 100m Free finals. Ellie finished 4th in 56.97 and Lucy finished 10th in 57.77. Ellie was swimming again next in the 16/18 yrs 400m Free and won Bronze in 4.14.69.   Lucy was the next finalist in action in the 16/18 yrs 200m IM where she won Silver again in 2.15.34. Well done girls!

 

David Gregory (18) swam in the 17/18 yrs 100m Back final finishing 5th in 57.59, Tegan Turner-Clarke swam in the 14/15 yrs 100m Fly final finishing 8th in 2.20.74. The girls 4x100 Free team (Lucy Spencer, Ellie Faulkner, Rachel Grainger & Tegan Turner-Clarke) were in the last final where they won Bronze behind Manchester and Plymouth, with some great individual swims. Well done!

 

In the semi-finals we had David Gregory (18)and Joe Faulkner (16) progress to the finals of the 200m IM.

 

 

 

Day 3

Another day of great swims and again the majority of our swimmers made it through to semi-finals and finals. There was another individual Bronze for Ellie Falkner (18) in the 16/18 yrs 800m Free in 8.43.00 - well done. Gabi Hignett (16) also competed in the 800m Free.

 

The girls 200m Free was the first event this morning with Rachel Grainger (15), Tegan Turner-Clarke (15) and Ellie Faulkner (18) competing and all qualifying for the semi-finals. With Ellie qualifying for the final tomorrow and Rachel and Tegan having great semi-final swims. David Gregory (18) secured his place in another semi-final in the 200m Back and then making it through to the final in 2.06.07.

 

Tegan was swimming again in the 100m Fly along with Lucy Spencer (18), Tegan making it through to the semi-final.

 

The boys 4x200m Free team (Joe Faulkner, Nick Grainger, Alex Watson & David Gregory) went through to the finals, finishing 10th in the last event of the day.

 

Also in the finals tonight were David Gregory (18) and Joe Faulkner (16) in the 200m IM. David finished 4th in the 17/18 yrs, just missing out on a medal in a very close finish, in 2.05.70 and Joe finished 8th in the 15/16 yrs in 2.12.04.

 

 

Day 4

With just 3 individual swimmers and a team competing in the morning session it still managed to be an exciting day. Joe Faulkner (16) started us off in the 200m Free swimming into semi-final in 1.59.15. Nick Grainger (16) qualified for the semi-final of the 17/18 yrs 100m Breast in 1.09.39. Lucy Spencer (18) competed in the 100m Back.

 

The girls 4x200m Free team (Ellie Faulkner, Tegan Turner-Clarke, Rachel Grainger and Lucy Spencer) were into final in 2nd in 8.20.33 and went on to win silver in 8.14.32. Another great race!

 

Ellie Faulkner (18) won another silver tonight in the 16/18 yrs 200m Free in 2.00.34 – well done!   David Gregory (18) was in the 17/18 yrs 200m Back final where he just missed out in a medal again finishing 4th in 2.06.35!

 

Day 5

Today CoSSS won Gold in the form of Matthew Johnson (16) in the 15/16 yrs 400m IM, winning in 4.20.87 – great swim Matthew! Also swimming in the 400m IM were Joe Faulkner (16) and Nick Grainger (16), with Nick making it through to the final finishing 7th in 4.35.84.

 

Another Silver medal today for Lucy Spencer (18) in the Girls 16/18 yrs 400m IM, qualifying in 4.53.26 with a fabulous swim of 4.46.68 to finish 2nd – well done Lucy!

 

Tegan Turner-Clarke (15) qualified for the semi- finals of the 15/16 yrs 50m Free finishing 16th in 27.74. Also swimming in the 50m Free was Jess Kendall (16).
