This site is now the home of our Gala Results and article archives.

We launched a new website in early 2022.  Take a look here.

A strong team of swimmers, ranging from 9 years olds from JO2, up to senior swimmers from Masters Squad, travelled to Scunthorpe on Saturday 11th September to compete in the final round of this years Barnsley Minors League Division 3. City of Sheffield went into this gala just 9 points ahead of our nearest rivals, Chapeltown SC. How CoSSS and Chapeltown performed on the day would determine which of the 2 clubs would gain promotion to Division 2 for next season.

Our normal team was somewhat depleted on the day due to the event clashing with the White Rose competition in Leeds. Nevertheless, we brought in some really strong young swimmers from JO1 and JO2, plus Jenny Starling and Rob Hyde from Masters Squad to bolster our team, along with the core team from Junior Development Squad who have performed so well for us throughout the season. Although we got off to a somewhat slow start, we quickly got into our stride, and the 1st place positions then started to flow.

All our swimmers performed magnificently on the day and many PBs were achieved. Some swimmers only competed in relays, others had a number of individual swims plus relays. Regardless of the number of swims, all our swimmers were a credit to City of Sheffield and really stepped up to achieve a memorable victory for the team. The final result of the gala was as follows:

  1. City of Sheffield – 216 points
  2. Chapeltown SC – 178 points
  3. Scunthorpe SC – 141 points
  4. Cleethorpes and District SC – 117 points
  5. Knottingly SC – 100 points

So victory on the day, and promotion up to Division 2, were achieved. This was a magnificent effort by all our swimmers, not just those who performed at Scunthorpe, but all who have competed so well for us, across many of our squads, throughout 2010.

Thanks also to Steve and Silvana Thorpe, John Barnes, Ros Goodyear, Mick Budd and Gordon Atkinson for their support in running our teams and officiating at the galas throughout the season.
