Last week swimmers and parents from CoSSS handed over a cheque for £2,337.18 to the Weston Park Cancer Charity. Much of this money is to go towards helping teenage kids diagnosed with cancer.

The money was collected as part of a sponsored swim event held earlier this year. The swimmers in the squad where given a challenge to swim the English Channel distance in 10 hours or less. A Channel swim is the equivalent of 21 miles, or 33,600 metres or 1344 lengths of a 25m pool. Some 37 swimmers participated in this challenge, well over half of the swimmers completed the distance in under 10 hours, and the rest well under 11 hours.

This was part of a series of fund raising events which are contributing to help fund the squads training camp in Tenerife later this year.

Well done to everyone involved, swimmers and parents alike, for giving something back to the local community. Weston Park is fantastic charity who make such a difference in caring for people diagnosed with cancer.

Some of the swimmers, parents and helpers are pictured at the hospital handing over the cheque. Also included is Mrs Joan Weatherington, this years ASA Yorkshire President, who gave her support to the event.
