City of Sheffield Swim Squad

This site is now the home of our Gala Results and article archives.

We launched a new website in early 2022.  Take a look here.

In addition to the fantastic squad performance, a number of swimmers are worthy of special mention. In becoming national champion in the 15/16 years 100 fly, Izzy Grant (15) also broke the British record for the age group, which was particularly impressive given that she is still in the younger half of the age group. Her swim also secured the Yorkshire senior and junior records for the distance, and her 50 split was also a Yorkshire junior record for the 50 fly. Nick Grainger's (18) increasingly strong performances over the season culminated in a treble of individual national titles in the 17/18 age group in the 200. 400 and 1500 free, and he also was part of a youth quartet in the 4 X 200 free team that secured gold in the open men's final (Matt Johnson (18), Joe Faulkner (18), Luke Smith (16), Nick Grainger (18)). Lewis Coleman (21) broke the Yorkshire record for the 200 IM again on the way to winning gold, just missing out on breaking the 2 minute barrier. He also won the open individual 200 free. Finally, Matt Johnson (18) is still in hard training for the World Junior Championships at the end of August but still managed to win an individual medal of each colour. He will be part of very talented team of 14 to travel to Dubai – good luck Matt!

Head Coach, Russ Barber said, "I'd just like to say a big well done to all of our swimmers at the Nationals. It was a tough week, but the swimmers raced really well, and showed their class every day, with many pbs. A special mention to the swimmers who won medals, and helped us to the Top of the medal table.

"It is a testament to the hard work, belief and discipline over a long period of time from the whole team of swimmers, coaches, parents, club, Council and SIV.

"It has been a really hard year for the program, but finishing top of the medal table is very rewarding, and something to be extremely proud of. It also shows that we have huge strength, depth and quality, and the future is looking very bright indeed.

Congratulations to all concerned"
