Here is a round up of the days action:-

 

Day 1

We got off to a flying start in the womens 200Fc with Becky Turner leading the charge with a fantastic personal best of 1.58.6, which cemented her place on the World Championship team as well as a fantastic bronze medal!  Ellie Faulkner and Aynsley Heseltine also did pbs of 2.00.5 and 2.04.0 respectively.  Laura Whitaker and Tegan Turner Clarke also swam well with times of 2.05.0 and 2.06.7.

Next up was Laura Huggon in the 100Bk who also did a pb in a time 1.05.2.  We then had the boys 400Fc with Tom Sunter, Dan Cocking and Matthew Johnson swimming well in times of 4.02.6, 4.03.4 and 4.03.6.  Matthew was straight round for his next race with the 200Fly, were he managed a fantastic 5th place in 2.01.87.

We then had Lewis Coleman in the 100Br who swam 1.06.9, and Lucy Spencer who went 1.04.6 in the 100Fly as a warm up swim for her main event which is the 200IM.  Lucy did a fantastic 2 second pb and finished 2nd in 2.14.3.  She just missed out on the World Championships by a touch, and broke the club record by a mile.  Well done Lucy!!

Day 2

The freestyle girls were back in action in the 100Fc, were Becky Turner was on fire again!  She swam another fantastic pb in a time 55.5, winning the silver medal and secured a 2nd slot on the World’s team.  Ellie Faulkner was also in personal best form with a 57.7.  Laura Whitaker and Lucy Spencer also swam well recording 58.2 and 58.6.

Next up were the Lewis and Matthew in the 200Fc with 1.55.7 and 1.58.5.  Lewis went straight around for his 2nd swim of the day in the 100Fly, which was a great pb time of 57.1.

Laura Huggon swam a great morning heat in a pb time and made it through to her 1st National final in the 50Bk, 30.4…well done Laura, followed by Matthews 2nd swim of the day in the 200Bk, 2.10.1.

Day 3

Becky and Laura Whitaker were back in action on the 50Fc, were both qualified for the final and secured good pbs in times of 26.1 and 26.6.  Next up we had Lucy in the 100Br who swam 1.15.2 closely followed by the girls 800Fc, were we had Gabby Hignett 9.10.5, Helen McRoberts 8.56.9 and Aynsley Heseltine 8.48.8.  Honours went to Ellie Faulkner though, who swam a fantastic 8.34.1 achieving a silver medal behind Rebecca Adlington.  Well done Ellie.

The day was finished off with the boys 400IM, with Matthew making the final in 4.27.6, Joe Faulkner 4.44.6 and Lewis 4.39.5.

 

Day 4

Final day of competition saw the freestyle girls lighting up the pool again, with Ellie getting another silver medal in the 400Fc 4.10.8, Aynsley 4.21.3 and Helen 4.24.3, but the surprise result was sprint specialist Becky Turner who swam up a distance and managed a fantastic 4th place in a 6 second pb of 4.14.3!

Lewis then had 2 swims, 200IM 2.05.3 were he came 7th in the final, and the 200Br 2.27.8…well done Lewis.  Gabby and Helen swam the 400IM in 5.04.8 and 5.05.9, but the highlight was Lucy Spencer again, who did an amazing 10 second pb 4.47.6, claiming another silver medal and club record.  Fantastic result!

The day finished off with Tom and Dan in the 1500Fc 16.06.0 and 16.06.2 which was a good pb for Dan.

  • 6 medals
  • 17 final places
  • 14 lifetime bests
  • 1 swimmer on World Championship Team

Well done to all of our swimmers, representing the city so well in such a great weeks competition.  Special mention also must go to those who did not taper (Dan, Ellie, Joe, Lewis, Lucy, Matt, Tegan and Tom) but raced so bravely and did themselves proud in very difficult circumstances.

 

Congratulations to Becky Turner, who will be competing in Shanghai at the World Championships in July…we are all behind you and wish you well!!
